Success Magazine Cover

Imagine yourself on a magazine cover. That is essentially what this project assignment was all about. I chose a real magazine that inspires me. Being a “mature” student working with younger designers can be intimidating, so I imagined myself where I hope to be someday.

This was an early typography focused project. Alignment and hierarchy were a strong emphasis. One challenge I ran into was that the professionally taken photo of me was not high enough resolution! It’s a bit on the fuzzy side, but there was nothing I could do about it in the time available. Another one was making light text show up against skin. If I was doing it over with what I know now, I’d take off the drop shadows on the dark text, or take it way down. One other was that my teacher wasn’t familiar with this magazine, so I had to show him that the tag-line alignment was their thing, not my mistake.

An important thing I learned was that the very top line needed to fill it’s space and match the title width. Removing the existing background in Photoshop was another skill I learned here.
